WHO ARE THE SUPERVISORS?
Sister Janet Bielmann, RSM
Janet Bielmann is a native of Buffalo, New York and a Sister of Mercy of the Americas. She received her B.S. in Education from Mt. St. Joseph's College and her M.A. in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University. She spent the years from 1966-1980 as a missionary in the Philippines. She did her training in Clinical Pastoral Education and Supervision at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital (now St. Luke's Medical Center) in Quezon City, Philippines. Rev. Al Dalton from Yale New Haven Medical Center had established this Center in the early 1960's. Janet eventually opened a CPE Center at Makati Medical Center in Manila, Philippines where she worked until 1980. She received a MA in Theology equivalency when she returned to the United States and established membership in various professional pastoral organizations.
Janet is certified by both the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education and the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. She recently served as Secretary/Treasurer of the newly formed Board of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains.
Janet has ministered as a teacher, a member of the leadership team of her community and the Director/Supervisor of Mercy Hospital's CPE program in Buffalo. When she completed her recent term in leadership, she joined the Catholic Health System Staff as Associate Director of the CPE Center and Supervisor of the community-based-urban programs. In the community-based program that she has pioneered, students are assigned to minister in shelters, soup kitchens, prisons, the YWCA, residences for persons living with AIDS, parishes and refugee programs.
Dr. Tyler Dudley
Tyler Dudley is a Russian Orthodox lay minister. He was born in Maine in 1941 and lived in Tennessee from age four until college where he grew up in the Southern Presbyterian Church. Tyler has two younger sisters. Both of his parents are deceased. Tyler is divorced. He received his B.A. in English from the University of Maine; his M.Div. from Colgate Rochester Divinity School; and his D.Min. from Andover Newton Theology School. He prepared to become a CPE supervisor at Worcester State Hospital, Westborough State Hospital, Boston City Hospital and Worcester City Hospital. He is a certified supervisor of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education; a diplomat in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and a certified chaplain in the Association of Professional Chaplains.
Tyler was ordained as a minister in the United Church of Christ in 1969 and functioned as a minister in that church until his conversion to Orthodoxy in 1995. He is now a member of the Protection of the Mother of God Russian Orthodox Church in Rochester. He has served parishes in Rochester and Worcester, Massachusetts. Tyler has supervised CPE at Loretto Geriatric Center in Syracuse and the University of Rochester Medical Center (Strong Memorial Hospital) prior to joining the staff of the Catholic Health System in September 2001.
Theresa Lowther
Theresa Lowther is a Roman Catholic laywoman. She is a member of St. James Parish in Buffalo, NY. Theresa was born and raised in Buffalo. She graduated for SUNY at Buffalo where she majored in English. Theresa attended Sisters Hospital School of Nursing and has worked as a psychiatric nurse in both hospital and community settings.
In 1990, Theresa began attending Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora, NY where she completed a MA in Pastoral Ministry. After completing internships in hospital ministry, Theresa entered the Catholic Health System CPE Program and became a certified NACC Chaplain. She is currently a supervisory candidate in both ACPE and NACC working toward completion of certification as a CPE supervisor. She is a member to the Sisters Hospital CPE Department.
