The residents of HOPE House don't hesitate to reach out to Youth Groups.
Through our Sharing with Youth Program, many groups of high school students will visit the house in small groups (usually less than 24 at a time). During their visit they will hear about the history of the house from Sister Karen and then residents will share their own personal stories with the teenagers. It is a wonderful experience for both the youth groups and for the residents as well. As one of the girls said, "I've learned so much from the men. Can we hear more of their stories." Her comment reflects the value of this program.
Ss. Columba-Brigid Teen Center is a Center located in the Inner City of Buffalo--one that every Friday and Saturday night from 8:00 pm until 11:00 pm is opened for neighborhood teens (ages 13 thru 17). The residents of HOPE House, along with volunteers from the Parish and college students, supervise the Center. Two former residents of HOPE House are the main supervisors of the program. The Teen Center is an opportunity for the residents of HOPE to give back to society and to help teens by sharing their own experiences with those in high risk of using drugs and becoming involved in criminal activity. As one of the teens said, "Why do you care about me, when my parents don't?"
