Potential of the Genome

The chromosomes in the nucleus of every cell in your body are identical.

They contain the total sum of every aspect of your body and your development from fertilization to death.

Not only disorders but even our physical and mental performance are written in the script of our DNA.

Inherited diseases in particular are linked to the activity of the genes.

Genetic disorders and birth defects may yield to the knowledge of the Genetic Code.

Certain genes provide special advantages and certain genes cause special problems.

Some propose that "stem cell" research will provide the cures to mankind's most horrendous diseases.

The specter of human cloning now haunts the human race.

DNA has already been used to establish the guilt or innocence of individuals in criminal cases. As the code becomes more readable, such use will increase.

The other side of the coin is that, like a finger print it can be used to track individuals. No one can hide.

If the government decides to use it as a means of identity, a reading of the DNA can be taken even before birth.

Even now parents unwittingly put the DNA of their children on record for the reasons of health or safety.

Every citizen of the state can be tracked in every activity through out every moment of their lives as simply as a supermarket barcode.

It could spell the end of freedom.

Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World"
or B.F. Skinners, playground
or George Orwell's, "1984"
could well be our destiny.

Proposals in the name of "Health Care" abound to utilize DNA as a means of tracking an individual from the womb to the tomb.
