SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR TRAINING
PROGRAM
Sept. 2, 2010 --June 9, 2011

During this second year, people are trained for the broader ministry of spiritual direction.

Spiritual Direction II

8 classes 9/2 – 10/21 $120.

A special opportunity for independent reading, role playing, sharing, and peer supervision, this course is geared for those guiding others in their life journey.

Methods of Prayer - 6 classes

10/28 – 12/9 (except 11/25) $90.

We explore various ways of becoming more aware of God's loving presence in our lives by means of meditation, contemplation, scripture, centering, mantras, music, and more.

Personality Typology - The Enneagram and Prayer – 4 classes 1/6/2011 – 1/27 $60.

We will study the 9 basic personality types and their patterns of thinking, feeling, and action in order that we may move from self-knowledge to wholeness and assist others in their growth.

St. Teresa of Avila

9 classes 2/3 – 3/31 $135.

Come to know the life and spirituality of this great woman of God and Doctor of the Church. Our own inner faith journeys will be enhanced through the study of her books - The Way of Perfection and The Interior Castle.

St. John of the Cross 9 classes

4/7 – 6/9 (except 4/2 1) $135.

We will study The Spiritual Canticle, The Ascent of Mt. Carmel, and The Dark Night of the Soul using the original texts of John of the Cross supplemented with contemporary understandings

All playshops will take place on Saturdays from 10-11:30 am at Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, St. Joseph Center for Spirituality, 4975 Strickler Rd., Clarence (just north of Main St.) Free will offering.

Sat., Sept. 11 The Poetry of Rumi with Dan Brown. Come spend a morning reading and discussing the poetry of Rumi, a 13th century Persian poet and Sufi mystic. His poetry seeks and celebrates union with the Beloved. Poetry will be provided or bring your own favorites.

 

Sat. Oct. 2 The Wisdom of the Early Fathers and Mothers with Joan Wagner, SSJ. Return to 3 rd century Egypt and listen to the winds of the Arabian desert as we ponder the sacred secrets of our Desert Fathers and Mothers. Read, reflect, optional sharing or just be with the “winds”.

 

Sat. Nov. 6 Phantom of the Opera as Archetypal Good and Evil, Self and the Shadow with Jan Sheridan This contemporary musical can be seen in terms of an allegory representing the Christian (Christina), the Tempter (Phantom), and a Christ figure (Raoul). After an introductory explanation of Jungian and Christian concepts, we will listen to segments of the musical, discuss key passages and relate them to our lives.

 

Sat, Dec. 4 Soul Sisters. Joan, Jan, Dianne, Pat and others will portray various women in Scripture as they speak to women today. Based on the book Soul Sisters by Edwina Gateley, we will recreate Mary of Magdala, Mary, Mother of Jesus, Martha of Bethany, and the Woman at the Well as if they were living now.
