TRAINING PROGRAM FOR PRAYER January to July, 2010 The Center offers the following courses which will meet Thursday nights in Clarence or other designated locations from 7 – 8:30 pm. People are welcome to take one or two courses for their personal spiritual formation or they may enroll in the entire program for training to become a prayer guide. New Testament Studies 6 classes 1/28 – 3/4 $90. In an introduction to the NT, we will look at the Gospels and Letters, considering how these stories spoke to people in the Early Church and how they impact our faith journeys today. This requirement may be taken at the Center or an-other site. Theology of the Trinity, of Christ, and of Salvation - 6 classes 3/11 – 4/22 (except 4/1) $90. This is a basic overview of key elements of Christian theology: the Trinity, Christology, and what the Church teaches about our salvation story. We will briefly look at the major doctrines and heresies of the Church and their pre-sent day manifestations. The perspective will be to look at theology as it is connects with people's spiritual lives.. Understanding the Dynamics of the Exercises of St. Ignatius – 10 classes 4/29 – 7/1 $150. Geared for those helping others on the spiritual journey, this course is an opportunity via video and discussion to grasp the internal dynamics of the Exercises. In order to take this course, you need to have already made a 30 day Ignatian retreat or the 19 th Annotation. Supervision and Practicum $15. per hour of supervision. After completing the above classes, students will guide a group or individual through the Exercises. They will then bring their experiences and issues to supervised sessions for discussion. SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR TRAINING During this second year, people are trained for the broader ministry of spiritual direction. Spiritual Direction II 8 classes 9/2 – 10/2 1 $120. A special opportunity for independent reading, role playing, sharing, and peer supervision, this course is geared for those guiding others in their life journey. Methods of Prayer - 6 classes 10/28 – 12/9 (except 11/25) $90. We explore various ways of becoming more aware of God's loving presence in our lives by means of meditation, contemplation, scripture, centering, mantras, music, and more. Personality Typology - The Enneagram and Prayer – 4 classes 1/6/2011 – 1/27 $60. We will study the 9 basic personality types and their patterns of thinking, feeling, and action in order that we may move from self- knowledge to wholeness and assist others in their growth. St. Teresa of Avila 9 classes 2/3 – 3/31 $135. Come to know the life and spirituality of this great woman of God and Doctor of the Church. Our own inner faith journeys will be enhanced through the study of her books - The Way of Perfection and The Interior Castle. St. John of the Cross – 9 classes 4/7 – 6/9 (except 4/2 1) $135. We will study The Spiritual Canticle, The Ascent of Mt. Carmel, and The Dark Night of the Soul using the original texts of John of the Cross supplemented with contemporary understandings ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS Helping to Bring about Reconciliation within the Soul through Collaborative and Conflict Resolution Methods Instructor, Kay Johnson Gentile Sat. Oct. 10, 9:15 to 12:15 pm $20. Are you walking a spiritual path and learning to understand and deal with life situa‑ tions that bring about both inner and outer conflict? Oct 17, 10-3pm $25.00 lunch included. This spiritual gift inventory and workshop will help you discover what your gifts might be and discern more clearly God's desire for your ministry and purpose in life. Midlife Spirituality - More than a Crisis Instructor, Renée Villa Sat. Nov. 7 9:30 - 11:30 $20.00 We will delve into midlife issues from a spiritual and psychological perspective. An opportunity for meditation and reflection will be included.
