"Free" Software

A note from the developer:
One of my hobbies is programming although I am just a beginner and an amateur. Lately all I've been programming is web pages such as this site (although some of the pages were done by persons from individual ministries). On this page I hope to share some useful items with you. At present we list just one program which determines the dates of Holydays in any year.
Fr. Bob McArtney

Determine the dates of Holydays:

One time I wanted to find the date of Easter for the coming year and I couldn't find a calendar. I went searching on the Internet for a program which would figure it out but all I found were old DOS programs (before Windows) and they didn't give me all the information I wanted. So I decided to write my own Windows program in Visual Basic 6. The result may be downloaded and is "Prayerware," that is, there is no financial cost but you are requested to pray for the developer of the program!

This program will run on any of the modern Windows platforms, e.g. Windows 95, 98, ME, XP, 2000 and is pictured below. The program will calculate various important Christian dates for any year from 1582 to 9999. Type in a year or use the arrow keys to move to the year of your choice. Click the "Calculate" button or press the ENTER key if your results are not displayed. The "About" button brings up the prayerware and disclaimer notices. The "Clipboard" button puts the results onto the Windows Clipboard for pasting into a word processor program. "End" is obvious. The program may also be ended by pressing the ESC key on the keyboard.

This is the way the program looks:

Instructions

The program is a self-extracting ZIP file containing two programs: "holydays.exe" and "msvbvm60.dll" which provides program code to run holydays.exe. The self-extracting program will ask you to indicate a folder where you wish to place the files. We suggest creating a new folder, "c:\holydays\."
