Everyone loves the beauty and innocence of a baby. As
an expression of that love, the Respect Life Committee of Our Mother of Good
Counsel (OMGC) announces a "Spiritual Adoption" program. You and your family will have the opportunity
to "spiritually adopt" a child who is conceived this month. Not all
newly conceived babies are allowed to be born. In fact. more than 4,000 babies
lose their lives to abortion each day. The late Archbishop Fulton Sheen encouraged "spiritual
adoption." This is done by praying that one particular, but unknown, child's
life be spared abortion and be allowed to live.
You may "adopt" a chilld by taking a prayer card (see below) and marking the date and the name you have chosen for this child still in it's mother's womb. Pray for this unborn child for nine months and for all unborn children, for the power of prayer is great. There is a short prayer on the back of the card.
No further contact with OMGC parish is necessary but you are invited to pray with others at the First Friday evening Masses (7:00 PM). Also, you may want to join a "knit club" where both novices and experienced knitters will knit baby items to support single moms and their babies, or young families in need.
"In the name of God, respect, love, and serve life, every human life! Only in this direction will you find justice, development, true freedom, peace, and happiness!." (Pope John Paul II)

Our Mother of Good Counsel (OMGC) Respect Life Committee is sponsoring a "knitting group" to do charity knitting for different organizations. Our first project will be knitting baby blankets in conjunction with the Spiritual Adopton program (see above). At the end of nine months, we will donate our blankets to the St. Gianna Molla Room - a pregnancy outreach center which helps young parents choose life through counseling and by providing supplies for babies throughout their first year of life.
The first meeting occurred on Thursday, February 10, 2011, from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Harmon Hall at OMGC Parish. There are 13 different baby blanket patterns available. All 13 patterns require four 100g balls of worsted yarn and a 24'' size 13 circular needle. Please call Lynn Dulak at 716-649-0436 (after 6:00 pm) to let us know if you are interested in attending, or if you have any questions regarding the project.
This is a wonderful opportunity to get out, be creative, and be part of a very worthwhile project. We look forward to seeing you!
